2024 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS NOMINATION GUIDELINES

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS

Each year, the Florida A&M University National Association, Inc (FAMU, NAA) celebrate and acknowledge supportive alumni who have distinguished themselves in their respective professions. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest award bestowed by the FAMU, NAA. This accolade recognizes alumni who have made notable and documentable contributions to the University (finance, recruitment, etc.) and their professions and/or categories. Individuals will be selected based on their involvement or success in the following categories: Agriculture, Athletics, Arts, Business, Communication, Civil Rights, Communication, Community Service, Education, Entertainment, Government, Health, Law, Medicine, Military, Religion, Science and Technology. No more than fifteen (15) recipients are selected each year.
Winners will be honored at the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards (DAA) Gala on
June 1, 2024. The DAA ceremony for 2024 will be held at the FAMU National Alumni Convention, Tampa, Florida.
Recipients honored with this distinction are held as embodiments of the FAMU success story and their names are often submitted to such organization as the National Association of Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) and the National Black College Alumni Hall of FAMU Foundation.

NOMINATION CRITERIA

The Distinguished Alumni Award Selection Committee will select the winner(s) for each category from among the nominations. This committee will consist of five (5) FAMU NAA representatives, to be appointed each year by the President of the FAMU NAA. To prevent a conflict of interest, staff members of the Office of Alumni Affairs are ineligible for appointment to the Selection Committee.
All nominations must meet the following criteria in order to be reviewed by the Committee:

  • Nominees must be alumni of the State Normal College for Colored Students, Florida A&M College (FAMC) and Florida A&M University (FAMU), to include individual who attended for a minimum of one complete term and left in good standings; and
  • Nominees must be a paid member of the National, Regional, and Chapter (where applicable) for the 2023 membership year of the FAMU NAA;
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted.
  • All applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm on March 15th, 2024

NOTE:
Awardee must be present at the ceremony in order to be honored (if the awardee dies prior to the ceremony, a representative may accept instead).
